SVA had initiated WADI Project in Sinapali block in the year 2013. Amrut Rout, a young farmer of Haldikhol village announces confidently –“I got all the benefits being a WADI beneficiary and I developed field as mango orchard, where 42 grafted mango plants were planted. After 3 years, I am procuring mangoes and this year, I have collected 15 quintal mangoes @ 30-40 per Kg. Around Rs.50,000/- I have earned from mango selling and more than Rs. 30,000 from inter-crop selling.”

Krishna Majhi, son of PustamMajhi, a marginal farmer says- WADI changed my life style. Now, I am getting regular income from my one acre WADI field. The Mango crop seasonallygiving earnings of more than Rs. 60,000/- and getting nearly Rs. 40,000/- from inter-cropping like vegetables and groundnut cultivation.

Habilal Majhi, s/o- Jagabandhu Majhi, the president of WADI Farmers committee of Haldikhol village, says- WADI is now main source of family income. I am getting more than 1 lakh from Mango selling, vegetable and groundnut selling and intercropping in WADI field.

Jayasingh Majhi, son of Tike Majhi of Haldikhol village of Sinapali block, Nuapada district is now a successful progressing farmer. He says proudly – “SVA initiated WADI Programme and my barren Land converted to regular resourse of income by planting mango plants and intercroppings of vegetables and spices like Chilly, Ginger etc.”

Mrs. Thaleswari Majhi, w/o- Padmaram Majhi is a WADI woman beneficiary of Haldikhol village. Now she is self sufficient due to her regular effort in her WADI field- she says- Due to intervention of WADI programme, I got chance to work in my WADI field due to irrigation facility. Getting  regular support of SVA and financial assistance of NABARD, I am earning Rs. 50,000/- from mango selling per year and getting more than Rs. 60,000/- by vegetable selling from this WADI village.

WADI- Sustainable source of income

During 2013, SVA started WADI Programme at our village Nuapada and I was eligible to be a beneficiary of this WADI Project assisted by NABARD and regular monitoredby SVA. I planted mango plants in my one acre of up-land which was barren. Now, I am getting income about one lakh per annum from Mango and vegetables selling.

“Getting priviledge leads to succ/ess”- says Keshab Majhi, s/o Khageswar Majhi of village-Nuapada. I was a small farmer and my agricultural produces were insufficient to my family need but due to SVA’s WADI intervention I got all types of assistance for plantation of one acre of land with mango seedlings. Due to labour hard and applying all inputs in right time I am earning more than Rs. 80,000/- per annum from my WADI field.

Dhanswar Majhi, son of Pabitra Majhi, village- Nuapada, Sinapali is a marginal farmer. After WADI intervention, being a beneficiary he says- “I got all facilities from SVA with assistance of NABARD and now earning more than one lakh per year from selling of mangos and vegetables.”
